The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is home to one of the leading schools of veterinary medicine in the country. The SVM project includes a new three-story building as well as an existing building remodel. The new facility will provide space for the small animal clinic, new offices, conference rooms, and shared collaboration/interaction spaces to support the teaching hospital. The clinical space will be expanded to increase access to the small and large animal isolation suites that are required to meet accreditation standards, increase the quantity of specialized surgery environments, provide imaging space, and separate patient access to medical oncology services. The existing building remodel will renovate portions of the animal hospital and raze three buildings. Westphal & Co. is responsible for the installation of the Johnson Controls building automation system.

Mount Carmel is home to retired Sisters of Charity for the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) and Presbyterian Homes & Services, who are in need of different levels of care. This Design/Build project is a new 250,000 sq ft. senior living housing facility. This building is the second major project in a multi-phase effort to reshape the campus and better serve the growing older adult population in the Dubuque community. The facility is being designed and built to resemble the existing Motherhouse that was established in 1833 and includes 116 independent living apartments, new common areas, four passenger elevators, and a pool with a spa. The electrical scope of the project includes new interior lighting, site lighting, emergency power, fire alarm system, and voice data system, CATV, CCTV, and building access control/security.

The Finley Hospital added two floors above an existing third story wing to house 40 private patient rooms. The project gave the hospital an additional 27,960 square feet. A mechanical room, bariatric rooms, conference rooms, nurse stations and management offices were added as well. While tying into some existing hospital systems and working in and through occupied areas, Westphal & Co. kept all existing areas of the hospital in uninterrupted operation. We installed normal and emergency power systems for lighting and receptacles and a fully-enclosed 500KW diesel generator; other systems included fire alarm, paging system, cable tray, and TV cabling. This project was LEED certified.

The vertical expansion project added three new floors to the existing hospital, including a ninth floor penthouse for the existing and expanded mechanical and elevator systems. Our scope of work included all lighting, power, security, and voice/data systems. Westphal & Co. provided preliminary lighting and power on the eighth floor for the new neonatal and pediatric intensive care units and shell space on the seventh floor for a future patient care build-out.

The scope of work for the NICU-PICU project included all necessary lighting, power, medical systems, security and voice/data systems to complete the neonatal intensive care rooms and support areas, pediatric intensive care rooms and support areas, pediatric oral care areas, and a new pediatric pharmacy.

Our scope of work for the pediaric/neonatal diagnostics pavilion included all necessary lighting, power, medical systems, security and voice/data systems, a new MRI suite, CT scanner, radio frequency shielding room, ultrasound rooms, prep/recovery rooms, and a state-of-the-art hybrid operating room utilizing the latest in world-class technologies.

The University of Wisconsin Rehabilitation Hospital serves patients who require rehabilitation following a stroke, brain or spinal cord injuries. This building is a 2-story, 58,000 square-foot, slab-on-grade structure. There are 50 patient rooms, a kitchen and servery, physical therapy gym, specialized therapy rooms and staff support areas. Westphal & Copmany, Inc was awarded the build out of the 7th floor at the American Family Children’s Hospital which houses the Universal Care Unit made up of 24 patient rooms, offices, and nurse call stations. Prefabrication of headwalls, conduit, branch wire, electrical panels, devices, and lighting allow the team to finish within the 7-month project schedule.
