Learn how Braeden Whitehead got into the electrical field, the importance of jobsite awareness, and how Westphal & Company and Globalcom Technologies foster a culture where safety comes first!
Q: How did you get into the electrical field, and what’s kept you here?
A: Electrical work has always fascinated me. There’s something about how power moves, how systems come together, and how everything has to be just right for it to work. The more I learned, the more I realized how much precision and planning goes into doing the job safely. That’s what pulled me toward safety, taking something complex and making sure people can work with it confidently.
Q: What’s something people outside the trade don’t realize about staying safe on the job?
A: Most people think safety is just PPE and rules, but out in the field it’s really about awareness and discipline. You’re constantly paying attention to your surroundings, the equipment and the people working around you, the pace of the job, the weather, and anything unexpected that pops up. One shortcut or moment of distraction can throw everything off. Safety isn’t something you check off a list, it’s a mindset you carry from the moment you step on site until the moment you leave.
Q: What stands out to you about how Westphal/Globalcom Technologies approaches safety?
A: What stands out is that safety isn’t treated as a burden, but it’s treated as a value. Our teams don’t just hand out policies; they invest in training, planning, and communication so people understand why safety matters, not just what the rules are. There’s a real culture of looking out for each other.
Q: Why are you proud to work in safety?
A: I’m proud to work in safety because it means I’m helping people go home the same way they arrived or better. Safety isn’t about paperwork, it’s about protecting lives, supporting families, and building a culture where people feel valued.
