Safety Spotlight 2026: Jared Lanier

Meet Jared Lanier, Safety Specialist in our Madison, WI office. In his role, Jared is responsible for implementing and enforcing company safety policies to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

Get to know Jared as he shares more about his role and what makes him proud to have career in safety.

Q: How did you get into the electrical field, and what’s kept you here?

A: I was drawn to work that’s hands-on, technical, and makes a difference every day. Electrical work plays such a critical role in how buildings and systems function, and I quickly realized that safety has to be at the center of everything we do.

What keeps me here is that no two days are the same. There’s always something new to learn, new challenges to solve, and new ways to make jobsites safer for our teams. Knowing that the work we do helps protect people and keeps projects moving safely is what continues to motivate me.

Q: What’s something people outside the trade don’t realize about staying safe on the job?

A: A lot of people don’t realize that staying safe isn’t just about following rules, it’s about constant awareness and decision-making. Hazards can change throughout the day, and even small shortcuts can have serious consequences.

It takes experience, communication, and teamwork to recognize risks before they turn into incidents. Safety in this field isn’t automatic; it’s intentional, and it depends on everyone looking out for themselves and for each other.

Q: What stands out to you about how Westphal & Company / Globalcom Technologies approaches safety?

A: What really stands out is that safety isn’t treated as just a checkbox, it’s part of the culture. Leadership genuinely supports doing the job the right way, even when that means slowing down or re-evaluating a plan.

There’s a strong focus on training, open communication, and empowering employees to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. That level of commitment makes a real difference on job sites and shows that the company values its people.

Q: Why are you proud to work in safety?

A: I’m proud to work in safety because it’s about protecting people and making sure everyone goes home the same way they arrive. Being able to help prevent injuries and create safer work environments is incredibly meaningful.

Safety professionals often work behind the scenes, but the impact is huge, not just for employees, but for their families as well. Knowing that my role helps support our teams and contributes to a strong safety culture is something I take a lot of pride in.
