Women in Construction Week Feature: Georgia Elliott

Meet Georgia Elliott, Project Engineer for Globalcom Technologies in our Madison, WI office. Globalcom Technologies, a division of Westphal & Company, Inc., specializes in voice, data, video, and security systems that power connected spaces across Wisconsin.

Georgia supports low voltage projects from estimating through field coordination, working closely with clients and field teams to keep projects organized and on track. From detailed takeoffs to evaluating equipment quotes and supporting on-site execution, she plays a key role in delivering high-quality telecommunications and security solutions.

Get to know Georgia and learn more about what makes her proud to work in the industry!

Q: What first sparked your interest in working in construction?

A: I was drawn to the creativity and problem-solving the construction industry allows. I especially enjoy the design side of the work; researching options, developing solutions, and determining the best approach for each project. Working in the technology division makes it even more exciting because it is constantly evolving, and there is always something new to learn.

Q: What’s a moment in your career, or something in your day-to-day that makes you feel proud to work in the industry?

A: I’m proud of the impact our work has on people’s everyday lives. The telecommunications systems we install make a real difference, from improving security in schools to supporting critical hospital infrastructure and communication systems. Knowing our work helps protect and serve communities is what makes it so rewarding.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in construction?

A: One of the most valuable experiences for me has been spending time on site. Seeing how things come together in the field gives you a perspective you can’t get from behind a desk. I also encourage people to pick up the phone or meet face-to-face when they can instead of relying only on email. Communication is key in construction, and asking questions directly is how I’ve been able to learn and grow.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the people or culture at Westphal & Company/Globalcom Technologies?

A: It really feels like a family. People are always willing to help, even if they aren’t directly involved in your day-to-day work. That supportive environment makes it easier to learn and take on new challenges.
