CAD/BIM/Revit Technician

Job Summary:
The CAD/BIM/Revit Technician works with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other software packages and technologies. The Technician works with senior design members, Project Managers, and jobsite Foremen to develop both 2D and 3D drawings for Construction layout, to create documents that help with productivity on the jobsite, to help our team use and visualize construction documents in a more productive and easier to understand way, and for cost estimating.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop Revit model families for general needs and project specific needs.
  2. Produce shop drawings, submittal drawings, as-built drawings, and other documents as needed for the project.
  3. Attend coordination meetings internally and externally on a project-to-project basis to assist in identifying and eliminating any potential issues as early in the process as possible.
  4. Represent the company in a professional manner by attending BIM coordination and clash detection meetings. Work with the project team to coordinate the work, clear the clashes, and meet customers’ BIM requirements.
  5. Assist with the coordination and management of electronic project files as required.
  6. Use the software – Revit, MEP, Navisworks, MS Office, Bluebeam, Robotic Total Station Software – and related technology to:Model the project’s electrical systems components such as switchgear, conduit, cable tray, and lighting with the understanding of how these systems will be installed in the field.

     

     

    Create installation drawings for our jobsite personnel.

    Coordinate installation with other trades

    Provide information to coworkers for sub-assembly and prefabrication.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to alternate between sitting and standing in a general office environment. Some travel to other offices or job sites will be required. Ability to navigate construction job sites with or without accommodation.

Location:
This is a full-time position and attendance is required at the main office located in Madison, WI.

Branch Manager (Milwaukee, WI.)

Job Description

This position reports to the President of the company. The Branch Manager has overall profit and loss responsibility for the branch and is responsible for the daily operation of that office. They assist in growth of the branch office by promoting the company, procuring projects through existing and new markets, hiring personnel, while directing office and field personnel. They assist the President in the areas of planning, marketing, organizing, and motivating of personnel. Specific duties are described below:

Business Development
Maintaining Relationship

1. Establish and deepen connections with clients to obtain work. Pursue new markets for the company’s services and coordinate efforts with the President.
2. Engage in social, civic, and trade activities that will enhance the prestige and goodwill of the company.
3. Maintain a continuous review of economic conditions of the area to assist in forecasting and strategy of future pursuits.

Office Management
Leadership

1. Set an example for all members of the team, as well as the rest of the company, in leadership, innovativeness, team spirit, integrity, and passion.
2. Continually review, analyze, and appraise the office in order to improve operating effectiveness.
3. Maintain and enforce approved policies concerning organization and procedure.
4. Work closely with the President and Officers on planning and implementing strategies as required to ensure success of the office.
5. Annually review and document the performance of all personnel in the office who are not signatory to a collective bargaining agreement. Perform annual salary reviews for these personnel with input from the President and Controller.
6. Mentor teammates in the office to utilize their strengths and develop improve weaknesses

Financial

1. Study thoroughly all financial, job cost, and marketing reports; make inquiries and take action as necessary based on these records and reports.
2. Be aware of and approve all expenses related to the office before they are paid by the company’s accounting department.
3. Become proficient with company software and computer operations as they relate to finance and other management issues.

Project Management
Branch Wide

1. Assign project managers to projects located in the office area and perform project management duties for projects as well.
2. Visit each project site on a scheduled or periodic basis to maintain contact with construction activities.
3. Assist on an as-needed basis in the solution of difficult construction and management problems or discussions with clients on project problems.
4. Become proficient with the company’s software and other computer operations as they relate to project management.

Specific Individual Project Management

1. Act as the company’s primary liaison with the client for the project.
2. Direct the coordination of activities of the field supervisor and any subcontractors.
3. Provide technical assistance to field supervisors as required.
4. Negotiate major equipment and material purchases, and requisition miscellaneous materials as required.
5. Review all job cost reports and oversee control of project costs to help ensure the profitability of the project.
6. Ensure that all contractual obligations are met with respect to the project.
7. Attend all required project meetings.
8. Initiate all project billings, respond to all change order requests, and approve all material charges to the project.
9. Maintain all required correspondence relating to the project.
10. At all times, have a thorough understanding of the projects costs and potential cost; billings and receipts; and any other information that will affect the project’s profitability.

Estimating
Branch Wide

1. Act as chief estimator for the branch office. Assure that estimates are prepared and coordinate the work of the estimating department in the branch office. Coordinate closely with the VP-Preconstruction and President as to which projects to bid and which estimators to assign to each project. Secure plans and specifications as required.
2. Review the estimate and estimate summary for each project bid out of the Milwaukee office. Coordinate with the VP-Preconstruction and President on final bid prices.
3. For all branch projects being estimated, advise, and assist the estimating staff as required.

Specific Individual Estimates

1. Perform quantity takeoffs as required. Request, receive, and evaluate major equipment and subcontractor quotes as required. Review quantities and totals for pricing.
2. Seek cost effective methods of construction used by field staff and project managers for inclusion in future estimates.
3. Secure most favorable material and other cost quotations.
4. Become proficient with the company’s estimating software. Check calculations and compile them to point of proposal. Use company proprietary labor and material database when preparing estimates.

Estimator (Madison and Milwaukee, WI.)

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the quantitative analysis (takeoff), summarization, and bid preparation of prospective projects.

Essential Functions:
• Perform complete, accurate takeoffs of plans, in a timely manner.
• Build through experience an understanding of industry standards, materials, procedures, electrical code, etc.
• Possess a thorough knowledge of the company’s estimating software
• Propose value engineering suggestions on each project to management.
• Refine the estimate prior to bid submittal.
• Understand the project’s design, risks, competition, players, etc. for bid preparation.
• Understand bidding procedures and strategic opportunities relating to the bid.

Job Summary:

At Westphal & Co., Inc., a Project Manager oversees the entire electrical construction project from the initial bid to final completion, all while working to increase efficiency and profitability as the project progresses.  A Project Manager serves as the professional liaison between our company and the client and is also the primary support person for our field forces (Electricians and Low Voltage Technicians).  Accomplishing these tasks is achieved by having a well-balanced amount of time spent in both the professional office setting and on the project site.

Project Management

Managing projects at Westphal & Company require a project manager to follow our detailed system of processes which includes the following duties:

  • Oversee the pre-construction process.

  • Negotiate major material/equipment purchases.
  • Work with the project foreman to lay out, plan, schedule, and engineer the work to create the highest value for the company
