Low Voltage Project Manager (All Locations)

The Project Manager/Estimator performs two functions – estimating and the overall management of construction projects.  The Estimator is responsible for the quantitative analysis (takeoff), summarization, and bid preparation of prospective projects.  The Project Manager serves as the professional liaison between the Company and the client. Project Managers also serve as the primary support person for the Company’s field forces.  The VDV Project Manager/Estimator reports to the Globalcom General Manager.

Responsibilities include:

Estimating

  1. Has the capacity to operate in a design build/assist role.
  2. Designs are compliant to industry standards and reflect best practices.
  3. Performing complete, accurate takeoffs of plans in a timely manner
  4. Possessing a thorough knowledge of the Company’s estimating software
  5. Proposing value engineering suggestions on each project to management
  6. Refining the estimate prior to bid submittal
  7. Understanding the project’s design, risks, competition, players, etc. for bid preparation
  8. Understanding bidding procedures and strategic opportunities relating to the bid

Project Management

  1. Having a thorough knowledge of industry standards, procedures, NEC, BICSI, etc.
  2. Maximizing project profitability
  3. Negotiating major purchases
  4. Having a thorough knowledge of overall project
  5. Working with the project foreman and other field forces to lay out, plan, schedule, and engineer the work to create the highest value for the company
  6. Submitting, receiving, and filing all required project correspondence, including:
  • Change orders
  • Pay requests
  • Requests for information
  • Shop drawings
  • Purchase orders
  1. Understanding our labor force, personnel, and union contracts
  2. Understanding contractual requirements and legalities
  3. Assisting in collections as required

Solar Project Manager (Madison, WI.)

At Westphal & Co., Inc., a Project Manager oversees the entire electrical construction project from the initial bid to final completion, all while working to increase efficiency and profitability as the project progresses. A Project Manager serves as the professional liaison between our company and the client and is also the primary support person for our field forces (Electricians and Low Voltage Technicians). Accomplishing these tasks is achieved by having a well-balanced amount of time spent in both the professional office setting and on the project site. The Project Manager reports full time in person to the Energy Project Executive.

Responsibilities include:

Westphal & Company estimates projects of all types, and the ideal candidate would possess the ability to estimate the following types of delivery methods:

  1. Plans and Specification.
  2. Design Build.
  3. Conceptual Estimating.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs as required. Request, receive, and evaluate major equipment and subcontractor quotes as required. Review quantities and totals for pricing.
  • Seek cost effective methods of construction used by field staff and project managers for inclusion in future estimates.
  • Secure most favorable material and other cost quotations.
  • Become proficient with the company’s estimating software. Check calculations and compile them to point of proposal. Use company proprietary labor and material database when preparing estimates
  • Assist in RFP proposal responses.

Business development is a key component to the complete project manager at Westphal & Company. Candidates should possess the ability or desire to perform the following:

  • Develop targeted customers by fostering a relationship that results in getting project opportunities.

Managing projects at Westphal & Company require a project manager to follow our detailed system of processes which includes the following duties:

  • Oversee the pre-construction process.
  • Understand the project’s contractual requirements.
  • Maximize project profitability
  • Negotiate major material/equipment purchases.
  • Work with the project foreman to lay out, plan, schedule, and engineer the work to create the highest value for the company
  • Handle all correspondence relating to the construction project.
  • Assist in managing the project’s labor force and personnel
  • Monitor project productivity and profitability, take corrective steps as needed.
  • Attend scheduled meetings relating to the project.
  • Be familiar with the project’s manpower, equipment, and tool requirements.
  • Advise and perform monthly billings.
  • Perform monthly job cost projections to ensure an accurate WIP.

Solar Specific duties

  • Interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings to assist in the design process
  • Identify problem areas that will affect design of new systems.
  • Create/ understand single line drawings for Solar Installations
  • Create construction documents with assistance from in house Electrical Engineer
  • Basic understanding of utility rates
  • Coordinate with utilities and other permitting agencies
  • Understanding of interconnection process
  • Understanding of Solar rebates and incentives
  • Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Charging station
  • Strong knowledge of Solar Equipment (Modules, Inverters, Racking)
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and specifically Articles related to solar installations.
  • Experience with commissioning and programming of equipment.
  • NABCEP Certification preferred

Preconstruction Manager

The Opportunity

The Preconstruction Manager is responsible for leading projects from the initial call, managing budgets, value engineering, communication, scheduling, and procurement. This role requires balancing multiple projects and client expectations, ensuring a smooth transition to the Operations Team. Essential functions include participating in pre-aware strategies, overseeing 3D coordination, and developing industry relationships, with a requirement of 7-10 years of electrical contracting or MEP coordination experience.

Pre-Award Strategies

  1. Participate in pre-award strategies associated with the RFP and required interview.
  2. Lead contact for all internal and external communications.
  3. Manage meetings, emails, tasks, and notetaking.

Project Budgeting and Estimation

  1. Prepare project budgets/estimates from conceptual to final contract amount in coordination with the estimating team.
  2. Collaborate with 3D coordination to ensure BIM Success and full prefabrication utilization.
  3. Maintain historical cost information to leverage on future pursuits.
  4. Participate in the final project success strategy, including constructability options, setting the final contract amount, long lead item procurement, and construction schedule input.

Relationship Management

  1. Develop and maintain relationships with industry contacts.
  2. Collaborate with clients and internal teams to align project goals.

Required Skills/Abilities
