Women in Construction Week is a time to recognize the women who help move the construction industry forward and to celebrate the people behind the work!
Growth in Women’s Participation in the Trades
Across the country, more women are building lasting careers in construction and stepping into roles that were historically underrepresented. This progress reflects a growing recognition that construction offers meaningful work, strong career paths, and long-term opportunity.
According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, 363,651 women were working in construction and extraction occupations in 2023, the highest number ever recorded. That represents a 28.3 percent increase since 2018.
Apprenticeships also continue to expand access to trades. In 2023, 10,257 women were active in construction apprenticeships, marking a 55.5 percent increase since 2018 (IWPR, 2024).
The numbers show movement. The opportunities are growing. And the future of the trades is being built in real time.
A People First Culture at Westphal & Company
At Westphal & Company, our culture is rooted in a people first mentality. When individuals are supported with the right resources, encouragement, and opportunities, they are positioned to do their best work. That belief guides how we build teams, approach projects, and invest in professional growth.
We proudly celebrate our women team members who continue to build their careers and lead with excellence in an industry that has traditionally been male dominated. Whether coordinating projects, leading conversations, managing critical details behind the scenes, or working hands on in the field, their contributions elevate our performance and strengthen our culture.
Their impact is seen in the quality of our work and the strength of our teams. We remain committed to being a place where every individual can grow, contribute, and thrive.
To all the women in construction, thank you for the work you do and the standard you continue to raise for this industry!
