Job Summary: The CFO is responsible for managing all financial aspects of the company, including financial reporting, risk management, strategic planning, and compliance with tax and government regulations. This role requires the ability to timely and accurately disseminate financial results of the company to internal and external users, train employees, prepare corporate budgets and job budgets, manage staff, work closely with other corporate officers, and understand the unique relationship between the stockholders and the company that is part of all closely held businesses.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA and / or MBA preferred.
  • 15 years of experience in accounting / finance related fields, income tax knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in or with construction companies
  • High level of integrity, problem solving skills, maturity, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively with and communicate with all co-workers.
  • Vision to achieve constant improvement in the company’s operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Understand and uphold company policies, as well as maintain competency in the procedures, work instructions, and other documentation required for safely, effectively, and correctly performing the duties specified below:

Financial reporting and budgeting

  • Assure all monthly financial reporting is completed accurately and timely.
  • Review monthly work in process reporting, including reviewing specific jobs as needed.
  • Confirm that all required information is completed for annual audit.
  • Prepare annual budgets, including detailed calculations of estimated sales.
  • Prepare quarterly updated budgets.
  • Communicate positive and negative trends and budget variances with management.
  • Share and clarify financial results with external partners.

Tax and other compliance

  • Ensure all needed information is shared with tax preparation firm to facilitate a timely and accurate tax return.
  • Understand sales and use tax laws and confirm jobs are properly set up and transactions correctly taxed.
  • Oversee all payroll and benefit transactions and reporting.
  • Review compensation and benefit packages for union employees and ensure wages and benefits are paid in a timely manner.
  • Confirm payroll set up accuracy of projects requiring specified payroll and benefit amounts.
  • Manage compliance reporting issues with customers and governmental agencies such as EEO reporting.

Risk management

  • Review and execute significant contractual agreements.
  • Negotiate with owners and general contractors on requested modifications to contracts.
  • Assess risks and rewards associated with pursuing specific jobs.
  • Develop standard agreements to be issued to company’s subcontractors and vendors.
  • Work with insurance agencies to develop coverages that meet the company’s needs.
  • Assist CEO in development of cash and equity needs of the company.

Other essential duties

  • Train co-workers on technical issues and to understand the essential importance of how individual duties affect the financial position of the company.
  • Provide insight to CEO on financial impacts of pursuing various business strategies and projects.
  • Assist with the development of labor rates and mark ups on significant projects.
  • Understand company operations and develop methods and procedures that benefit the “get work”, “do work”, and “keep score” teams within the company.
  • Develop professional and positive relationships with the company’s customers, vendors, and service providers.
